Director Approval

Home Page - Site Map

Background

This is the process to become a board approved director at Kaleidoscope Theater. Once approved, a director automatically becomes a de facto member of the play selection committee and is invited to submit plays for possible selection for an upcoming season.

The director approval process allows a potential director to become familiar with the responsibilities KT directors are asked to perform and allows the board of directors to become familiar and confident in the abilities of the potential director. This second point is particularly important to the future of Kaleidescope Theatre because the reputation and solvency of the organization rides on the shoulders of a successful show - which ultimately rides on the abilities of the director. A series of less than top quality productions can impact ticket sales for several seasons.

There are many skills needed to be a successful director at Kaleidoscope Theatre, more than simply having an artistic vision. Because we are a small community theatre, the director is also the producer and is responsible for a wide range of distinctly non-artistic aspects to the production, such as: keeping the budget; opening the theatre before, and locking the theatre after, each rehearsal; finding the personnel for stage crew, tech crew, set building, costume design and construction, etc. To keep track of all these responsibilities, the director should possess organizational skills. In addition, because we are an all-volunteer theatre, "people skills" are a must - we can't afford to alienate our unpaid volunteers.

If you are interested in becoming a director, contact the Kaleidoscope Board of Directors.
