The Dorest Playhouse, Dorset, Vermont, presented this adaptation with the Caravan Theatre Summer Stock Company on August 3, 1968. Synopsis: Ten Nights in a Barroom tells the story of Joe Morgan, a good man who has fallen victim to the evils of the local saloon, the Sickle and Sheaf Inn. He has abandoned his wife and sickly daughter Mary. Running the local tavern is Samuel Slade, who has left working in the mill for the more lucrative career of tavern keeper. Entering the small town is a stranger named Romaine, who campaigns against liquor. The town is populated by a colorful assortment of locals, including ambitious young men, demure damsels, long-suffering wives, errant husbands and Goldie, a saloon singer with a heart of gold. Musical numbers include such period standards as There is a Tavern in the Town, I Don't Care, The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo, Ta-Ra-Ra-Boom-Dee-Ay, Look For the Silver Lining and She's More To Be Pitied Than Censured. ![]() ![]()
