Bus Stop was first presented by Robert Whitehead and Roger L. Stevens at The Music Box, New York City, March 2, 1955. Synopsis: A motley group of weary bus passengers become stranded by a storm in a run-down, honky-tonk diner. A boisterous cowboy, a colorful chanteuse, a drifter, a bus driver and a world weary professor try to make it through the night with a sheriff, the owner of the diner and a naive waitress on hand. But flaring tempers, disparate ambitions and wildly varied personalities make for an explosive, often funny and always entertaining night at Grace's Diner. The play blends comedy and drama in a clever character study. This is probably William Inge's most famous play, mainly due to a 1956 film version which starred Marilyn Monroe and introduced Don Murray.
